Pearls & Roses Bridal FAQs
I had a dress custom-made once and it was awful – nothing like what I imagined. Are you an experienced dressmaker in Geelong?
There’s custom-made and then there’s custom-made. Not all custom-made dresses are created equal! However, you can rest assured your dressmaker is not only experienced, but talented. Simply take a look through our galleries to see many of our custom-made dresses and make an appointment to come in with your photos and/or ideas and let us bring them to life. To put your mind at ease and ensure we get the design just right, we make the design in cotton first and ask you to come in and try it on. We then make final adjustments before making the dress in your chosen fabric.
If the cotton-concept dress is not what you had envisioned, then we can change it. Our brides and other customers walk out of our shop happy and excited with the dress of their dreams.
Do you take walk-in customers?
Sorry, we do not. As Geelong’s leading dressmaker we would not be able to provide the high level of service we do if we had people walking in to browse and ask questions. We welcome browsing and questions – but by appointment only! We give our full and undivided attention to each bride, bridal party, debutante and other customers when they make an appointment with us. Choosing or designing your wedding dress is serious business and we aim to make it special for each individual. We have two private consultation rooms and warmly welcome you to make an appointment to browse our ready-to-wear ranges or talk to us about having something unique made just for you.
Are you available for appointments on weekends?
Certainly! If we weren’t available for weekend appointments, full-time working women would never be able to wear our dresses! Please note, when you book an appointment there will be a wait for weekday and weekend times, with a slightly longer wait for Saturdays. Just like booking in with a renowned hairdresser, you usually have to book a few weeks in advance to get a Saturday appointment. Due to the popular demand for our service, we are no different.
Can I bring my bridesmaids or mum to my wedding dress appointment?
Absolutely! Choosing your wedding dress is an incredibly special thing and we welcome you to share this excitement with your mother, mother-in-law, maid of honour or bridesmaids. Many brides bring their mother along or a close friend. Of course, if you choose to come alone we will be there no matter what to help you find the most beautiful wedding dress for you.
As mother of the bride I feel I need to dress a certain way and look appropriate, but I don’t want to look dowdy! Can you help?
We hear you! And why should you look dowdy? It’s one of the most significant days in the lives of you and your daughter. It will be exciting, special and, in many cases, good fun! Whether you want to look elegant and understated or flamboyant and fabulous, we’ll help you strike the right balance. It all depends on your personality, the theme and type of wedding and more. Our dressmakers provide custom-made dresses for the mother of the bride, ensuring a flattering fit, cut and colour, designed to suit you.
I’m going to the Brownlow medal evening and need a spectacular dress, can you help?
Whether you’re going for “best-dressed” or simply need a dress, we’ll help you stand out in a sea of gowns with something unique. You might want something on-trend, something sparkly or maybe you want to set a trend. Either way, we have a rack full of ready-to-wear gowns which can be altered to suit you, or, we can design and custom-make a Brownlow dress unlike any other.
Help! I bought a dress elsewhere and it doesn’t quite fit. I’ve heard you do alterations – can you help me?
Absolutely. Our philosophy is such that we believe every bride and woman should feel beautiful in their wedding or special occasion dress. As a result, we happily provide bridal and dress alterations in Geelong. If you need the hem shortened, the straps shortened, a couple of centimetres from the sides or some padding or support around the bust, we should be able to help you. Make an appointment, bring it in, and if we can provide alterations for a positive outcome, we will. If we cannot alter your dress effectively due to the design, we will certainly do our best to help you find a suitable dress in time for your event.
